Winter steelheading at its finest!

It is still winter in Terrace, and the amount of snow is record breaking! But we where brave enough to face the elements, and a shallow Skeena river. As most of the steelheaders now, fly fishing for winter run steelhead is NOT a numbers game! Every fish is a trophy and you have to work hard and endure the cold to get rewarded. But once you hook a winter run steelhead just fresh from the ocean, you will never forget it!

Derek with a nice 18 pound hen from the Skeena river.
A nice afternoon on the Skeena river. Yes that is all ice and snow!
This is the only shot we have from Derek's 20 plus pound!!! Buck that won. After a long fight the hook came loose and we lost the fish. It's all part of steelheading! But have a look at the tail, and where the line cuts thru the water. Now that is a big fish!
That is why we love the Skeena River, a big river with big fish!
